The Top Five Winter Food for Birds

Providing winter food for birds is important as it will all help keep them going through the hard winter. These are our top five recommendations of winter food for birds:

Fat

Fatballs and bird cakes can be great winter foods. You can make your own by melting suet, poured into moulds and allowed to set. Fatty treats attract most birds.

Mealworms

Available from pet ad aquarium shops to feed reptiles, fish and birds. Mealworms are the larvae of a beetle and are available live or dried. High in protein, they are particularly relished by robins.

Sunflower seed or commercial mixed seed can be offered to bird’s all year round in feeder or on bird tables. Most garden birds will eat seeds, especially Finches.

Peanuts
