Teen Friendly Ideas For Your Garden
As stated in our previous article, (Child Friendly Ideas for Your Garden) February is the most popular month for families to start planning their new garden. Here are some ideas to get you thinking about how to make your garden teen-friendly, ahead of the warmer weather.
1. Social Spaces
Whilst, stereotypically, teens are known for spending most of their time in their rooms, they will almost definitely want to use the garden as a place to socialise with friends, especially after the year we have had! A modern designed seating area, which is both aesthetically pleasing and comfortable, may entice them to leave their rooms and come and sit outside with their family or friends. You may also consider fire pits, built-in BBQs or (for older teens) bars and drinks areas to further enhance this social space!
2. Privacy
Teens value their privacy – you may want to consider screened seating areas or using different levels in your garden so they can feel like they are ‘out of sight’ and not being crowded. They may also be feeling a lot of stress and pressure from schoolwork, so a space where they can relax and reflect alone may be beneficial to their mental health. If you do have younger children, consider zoning your garden, to ensure each member has their own space.
3. Technology
Technology in the garden has come a long way. As well as different styles of lighting, you may want to consider outdoor plug sockets, Wi-Fi boosters or even creating an outdoor office or study area. This additional technology will provide a safe space to use for homework, study, or socialising, ensuring they make the most out of the garden.
