Autumn Jobs For your Garden

Autumn can be one of the best times of the year to spend in your garden – the leaves are changing, and the weather is crisp whilst still being warm enough to spend time outside. Here are the autumn jobs you can do to make sure your garden is still looking its best at this time of year.

Leaf clearing and sweeping

While the leaves look beautiful as they fall, if they get damp they can attract worms and insects and stop light getting to your lawn. Leaf clearing should be the main job to fill your time with to ensure your lawn remains healthy. Leaves can be used to create your own ‘home grown’ compost, which can then be applied to your garden next year.

Seasonal Pruning

Repair the greenhouse

While the greenhouse can retain heat in summer, it can lose it quickly in winter if there are any holes or leaks. Once the greenhouse is emptier in late autumn, it can be the perfect time to do any repairs.

Tidy the pond

Prepare for next year

Make the most of the colder weather and consider what you want to achieve over the next year. Will you consider a new planting scheme or a redesign? Whilst the weather is still mild, make sure you do as much preparation as you can. Remember, you will want any changes to be completed by the time summer comes around, so make sure you start now.
