Everyone loves the idea of a bright and healthy green lawn in their garden. As the summertime ends and the cold nights and dark mornings arrive, the season of fertilising and mowing comes to an end. However, winter soon comes and goes and when it does, you’ll want to have your lawn looking fabulous again. Get your lawn winter-ready now to ensure the best start to the new year.
Here are some of our Top Tips for you:
Give it Air and Water
Lawns need Air and Water to survive. Aerating your lawn in the winter will loosen the soil it and allow it to absorb fresh air, water and nutrients.
Trim & Feed the Grass
Before the weather becomes frosty, cut the grass. Next, cut the grass again, this time lowering the blade on your Mower to cut it slightly shorter than normal. After the last cut, feed the lawn with a good fertiliser. This will help give the lawn strong roots and winter endurance.
Repair Unattractive Patches
Unattractive patches can appear for several reasons. For example, lots of traffic will kill the grass. If this is the cause, it can be rectified by spreading some soil mixed with grass seed. After this, the soil will need to be kept moist for 7-10 days. The grass seed will then begin to germinate.
Maintain Your Lawn Equipment
Ensure your garden hoses are drained and put away. Store any chemicals away in a safe place and clean your clippers and edging shears.
Lawn Care Treatments We Offer
Scarification is the process where we rake the moss and thatch out the lawn to let it breathe. This is carried out in September/October dependant on the weather conditions. Aeration should be carried out with a hollow tine aerator, which removes small cores of soil to relieve compaction. Following the aeration process, we apply the top dressing evenly and brush it into the previously made holes, which help feed the grass by increasing nutrients in the root zone.
We can also provide you with Feed and Weed treatments throughout the year. Feed and Weed treatments are the perfect way to keep on top of the weeds that are growing in your lawn whilst ensuring your lawn has all the nutrients it needs to grow healthily and vibrantly.
