We hope that everyone has survived the dip in temperatures over the last couple of weeks – it will be over before we know it I’m sure! Here are a few winter gardening tips to consider over the next few weeks:

  • If your garden isn’t waterlogged or frozen, it might be a good idea to dig over your soil. This will allow you to loosen the ground, remove weeds and add compost or manure so that your soil has those fantastic nutrients to help it thrive.
  • Have you planned what you’re doing with your spring flowers? Get in touch and let us know what you’re planting for the spring.
  • There are lots of different vegetables to sow this month in the garden if you want to start your own vegetable patch. Try carrots, cauliflower, aubergines, and cabbages.
  • Here’s something to try – set the water from your boiled food (such as vegetables, noodles, and eggs), let it cool down and then use it to water your plants. This not only saves on your water bill Flower Bedbut also this water includes nutrients which will help the plants to thrive!
  • Just something to think about before you plant up this year – at Blue Iris we find that planting odd numbers makes the border look much more aesthetically pleasing and fuller.
